Shakespeare in Montclair

The Montclair Orchestra’s highly anticipated second season opens next Sunday, September 30 with an evening dedicated to music inspired by the works of William Shakespeare. Led by music director and conductor David Chan, the program features excerpts from the incidental music to A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Felix Mendelssohn and to Much Ado About Nothing by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, as well as orchestral selections from Giuseppe Verdi’s brooding early opera Macbeth. The concert will end with Tchaikovsky’s perennial favorite, his Overture-Fantasy based on themes from Romeo and Juliet.

In a notable twist on standard concert presentation, a superbly talented cast of locally-based actors will also perform famous passages from each of the four Shakespeare plays between individual movements of the music. With a team including veteran Shakespeareans Geoffrey Owens, Colin Ryan, and Pamela Kahl, and recent Montclair High School graduates Vivian Belosky, Aaron Drill, and Sophia Seidenberg, this promises to be an evening you won’t want to miss.
